Abbey Celebration for Gryphon Students
The achievements of The Gryphon School’s Years 11 and 13 students were honoured on Saturday 21 September with a formal prize giving ceremony in Sherborne Abbey. The awards were presented by Mr Darran Gunter, Chief Fire Officer for Dorset. Local community leaders joined governors, parents, and staff at the event recognising the successes of the school’s prize winners.
The Abbey was packed as local community leaders and governors joined friends, family members and fellow students to applaud the award winners in this annual event. In an inspirational speech Mr Gunter, who told students he had left school without finishing Sixth Form, urged them as they go out into the world to stretch themselves, look for experiences and grasp them. He said doors that open to you are because of the hard work you have put in and that just enough is not good enough. He encouraged the students to strive for more and said ‘Don’t be sad that this part of the journey is over but smile because it has happened’.
Headteacher, Mr Steve Hillier said, ‘It is a privilege to be in Sherborne Abbey to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our students. I am so proud of them.’
This year The Gryphon students achieved their best ever A Level results and it was another outstanding year for GCSE students. Mr Hillier said that the achievements of the students reflect their considerable dedication and commitment and that of their teachers over the last two years.
