GCSE English Resit

If you enter the sixth form without having achieved a grade C in GCSE English, you will need to retake this important qualification, which will be required by almost all the career and education paths you may wish to enter post-18.

The Gryphon School provides support and revision classes which are appropriate for Sixth Form students. You will not need to study alongside people doing their GCSE for the first time. The usual time allocation is 4 hours per fortnight: roughly half an option block.

The course taught is AQA English Language. You can follow this course even if your first attempt at GCSE was in the “English” qualification. English Literature is not offered as a re-sit class.

If you studied for a different exam board at a previous school, you may be able to retake the exam for that board, but this will need to be discussed with the Head of English when you register.

Examinations are available only in the June series. Depending on the breakdown of marks in your first attempt, you may also need to complete new Controlled Assessments.
