Religious Studies (Philosophy and Ethics)
Why study RS Philosophy and Ethics?
Do you enjoy discussing ideas? Are you someone who doesn’t always need to find the answer but just enjoys asking the question? Yes? Well RS Philosophy and Ethics may just be right for you. This subject will give you an opportunity to develop your analytical thinking. It links well with most subjects because it teaches you transferable skills and is a popular subject particularly for those considering a career in medicine, nursing and teaching. Students also find that the skills taught help them when applying for courses as far ranging as the Armed Forces and retail.
What will I study?
The full course title is ‘OCR A Level Religious Studies (H573) which is comprised of three separate units:
H573/01 Philosophy of Religion
H573/02 Religious Ethics
H573/03 Developments in Christian thought
The exam for each component will be worth 120 marks and represents 33.3% of the total marks for A Level. These exams will take the form of an externally assessed written papers lasting 2 hours each and testing both AO1 and AO2.
Each paper will contain four essay questions, with the student choosing three out of the four to answer

All students can access the specification, the course handbook , relevant articles, exam resources, course guides and revision material through the VLE in iLearn I Lesson .

Whilst we already provide course notes, many students like to buy text books to supplement their learning. As this will be a new specification the text books are still being developed. If you are considering this option there are several books that we recommend but bear in mind they are not the most up to date and will be superseded by the new text books
