Sherborne Area Roadsafe is a community campaign which aims to improve road safety for children on their journeys to and from school and in the areas in which they live. Sherborne Area Roadsafe has been a very successful example of where collaboration between schools, local organisations, charities and local businesses can bring about  positive changes, which make children safer on the streets of Sherborne and surrounding villages. The aims of this project have been to:

  • develop the strengths of road safety education in SAST schools
  • commission child awareness road signs, designed by local school children
  • repaint road markings in the vicinity of local schools
  • host a road safety event to promote road safety in the local area.

So far, Dorset Highways have repainted road markings in the vicinity of Sherborne primary schools and those in the surrounding villages. Local business sponsors and the Police and Crime Commissioner have funded child awareness road signs designed by local school children on Coldharbour, outside Sherborne Fire Station, at the gateways to Wootton Grove and Harbour Way. In addition signs have been erected outside Abbey Primary School and on Lenthay Road and Ridgeway. Road safety design winners have been selected for the next phase of road signs in the vicinity of primary schools in surrounding villages. Now in the projects final stages, The Gryphon School is hosting a Road Safety Event and Awards Evening to which all SAST families are invited to attend.

Please confirm your attendance by email to asap. There are limited seats which will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Please clarify the number of seats your family will require.
