Special Educational Needs [SEN]

The Learning Support Department plays an essential role in our Student and Family Guidance Centre. Our SENCO, Sarah Darlington, leads a team of 3 specialist Dyslexia Tutors and a diverse team of Teaching Assistants, subject and year based. In addition, there is a full time administrative assistant.

Our Student and Family Guidance Centre (SFGC) comprises the Dyslexia Base, The Blue Room, the School Chaplain, the School Nurse and a Careers advisor, as well as other outside agencies which work with our students and their families. The work of the SFGC is overseen by Deputy Headteacher, Nicki Edwards.

The Local Authority funds the Dyslexia Base provision for 20 students with specific learning difficulties and other complex special educational needs. At present we organise teaching programmes for approximately 120 students over a fortnight. This ranges from specialist 1:1 teaching to group teaching. These sessions can take place before and after school, lunchtime or during selected curriculum time.

Our Blue Room offers support to students who join the school mid-year as well as those students who need extra support through the year because of medical, educational or emotional issues.
