Katie wins Dorset Junior Chef of the Year for the second year in a row!
Gryphon student Katie Prigg is celebrating after retaining her title as Dorset Junior Chef of the Year at this year’s competition.
The competition, held at Bournemouth & Poole College, saw young chefs from across the county compete to win a place at the South West final which is held in October.
Judging the content were Pete Murt (Head Chef at Rick Stein, Sandbanks), Russell Brown (Director at Creative about Cuisine), Gary Kilminster (Business Development Executive at Essential Cuisine) and David Marshall (Chef Lecturer at Bournemouth & Poole College).
Katie’s winning dish was Sea Bream en papillote, served with fennel croquettes and a pernod velouté. The judges praised Katie’s fish filleting skills saying they were some of the best they’d seen, and said that it was her outstanding sauce which clinched the win.
Katie said “I’m really pleased with how the competition went, the more experience I’ve had the more my confidence has grown. I made it through to the final last year, so I’m excited to take part in again in the autumn, and hopefully win!”.
Katie plans on pursuing her passion for cooking and would like to specialise in patisserie for her future career.
