At the Gryphon we are blessed to currently have two Chaplains within our school community. Harry Vincent from Dorset Youth for Christ, and Yvonne Bright from ReBorne. Together, they are present for three days a week in school.  Both Yvonne and Harry promote and support the spiritual development of the whole school community, offering opportunities to explore faith, a listening ear, pastoral care, and prayer for the whole of The Gryphon Community; students, staff and parents alike.

Yvonne and Harry bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their roles and work closely with the pastoral support teams in the school. Much of their time is spent with individual young people, but they are also involved with many activities and initiatives including supporting school trips such as the Duke of Edinburgh award, visiting lessons, talking with pupils about faith and spirituality through tutor time reflections and assemblies, and generally being around the school to be present for the young people and staff. They also lead and facilitate an intentional prayer group for parents, as well as promoting connections with local charities, other local churches and youth workers.

As a Church of England School worship is an important part of the life of the school.  We affirm the major contribution that Collective Worship can make in the development of the ‘whole child’.  It gives us the opportunity to come together as a school community to celebrate the experience of being alive and, in doing so, foster a sense of awe, wonder and responsibility for the world in which we live.  Worship also provides opportunities to explore spirituality and Christian values facilitating consideration of their purpose and place in the world they live.  Worship helps to prepare students for life-changing moments and enables the school to share together in love, joy, hope, friendship, fear and sadness.  Our Acts of Worship are led by Harry and Yvonne, and its themes are devised by the Worship Committee which consists of the Chaplains, staff members and students.
