The Haven

The Haven is a central part of our commitment to ensuring that every student at The Gryphon can experience life in all its fullness.  The Haven provides a safe, nurturing environment where students are supported to feel secure, valued and ready to learn.
We recognise that at times, young people need additional support to manage the challenges of school life. The Haven exists to remove barriers—whether emotional, social or behavioural—so that every student can re-engage with learning and thrive as part of our school community.

We create a calm, structured and supportive environment where students feel known, understood and respected.

The Haven is not an endpoint, but a bridge, where students are supported to:

  • Develop emotional regulation and resilience
  • Build positive relationships with peers and staff
  • Re-engage with learning and the wider curriculum
  • Grow in confidence, independence and self-belief
  • Our focus is on restoration, not removal—helping students return successfully to mainstream lessons and school life.

Support within The Haven is personalised and responsive. It may include:

  • Short-term, targeted intervention
  • Support for emotional wellbeing and mental health
  • Opportunities for reflection, reset and reintegration
  • Close collaboration with families, SEND and pastoral teams

We understand that every student’s journey is different, and we measure success not only in academic outcomes, but in confidence, stability and readiness to learn.

With the help of specially trained staff, the Haven equips students with the tools they need to succeed beyond the provision itself.

We aim for every student to leave The Haven ready to engage positively in school life and able to manage challenges with increasing independence.
