Disadvantaged & SEND
We are deeply committed to ensuring every student thrives academically and personally. Our inclusive ethos, grounded in the Christian values of Leadership, Integrity, Fellowship, and Exploration (LIFE), guides our approach to supporting disadvantaged students and those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This section outlines how we embrace these values and our vision to enable all students to live life in all its fullness (John 10:10), by providing tailored care and support to meet diverse learning needs.
We recognise that some students face additional challenges that may affect their learning or wellbeing. The Gryphon School’s Disadvantaged and SEND Strategy is designed to identify and remove barriers to success, ensuring that every student, regardless of background or need, has access to high-quality education and opportunities to flourish.
- Personalised Support: We provide bespoke interventions and personalised learning plans to meet individual needs. This includes specialist teaching, in-class support, and access to external professionals when required.
- Inclusive Environment: Our school community embraces diversity and fosters a culture where every student feels valued and respected. This inclusive atmosphere reflects our core value of Fellowship, promoting a sense of belonging and mutual support.
- High Expectations: We maintain high academic and personal expectations for all students, including those who are disadvantaged or have SEND. This reflects our value of Leadership, encouraging students to develop resilience, ambition, and self-confidence.
- Collaboration with Families: We work closely with parents and carers, recognising their vital role in their child’s education. Regular communication and partnership ensure that support is consistent and responsive to changing needs.
- Holistic Development: Beyond academic achievement, we nurture personal attributes such as communication, teamwork, and a strong work ethic. This aligns with our vision of Exploration, encouraging students to discover their strengths and prepare for life beyond school.
How We Deliver Our SEND and Disadvantaged Strategy
- Early Identification and Assessment: We proactively identify students who require additional support through thorough assessments and close monitoring of progress.
- Dedicated SEND Team: Our experienced SEND Coordinator (SENCO) leads a team of specialists who provide expert guidance and coordinate support across the school.
- Access to Resources and Facilities: We continually enhance our facilities and resources to support diverse learning styles, including assistive technologies and quiet spaces for focused study.
- Targeted Interventions: Tailored programmes address specific needs, whether academic, social, emotional, or behavioural, ensuring that students receive the right support at the right time.
- Tracking and Review: We regularly review each student’s progress and adapt support plans accordingly, involving students, families, and staff in a collaborative process.
