IT, Digital Learning & AI

Digital Learning is central to teaching and learning at The Gryphon School. Our approach is designed to ensure that students and parents/carers can access high-quality learning resources anytime, anywhere, alongside clear and responsive support when it is needed.

Students benefit from a dedicated Student Portal, which provides a single point of access to key systems such as Microsoft 365 and Arbor. Through the portal, students can view attendance and behaviour information, access academic and pastoral resources, and engage with a range of online learning platforms both in school and at home.

Technology is embedded across all subject areas, supporting collaboration, creativity and independent learning. Tools such as Microsoft 365 enable students to work together effectively, while digital platforms such as OneNote and Microsoft Teams enhance the delivery of homework and wider learning opportunities. Our staff are continually developing their practice through a structured programme of digital training, including the effective and responsible use of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

We recognise the growing importance of AI in education and beyond. Students are introduced to AI through both the Computing curriculum and the tutor programme, where they develop an understanding of how to use AI tools appropriately, alongside key concepts such as ethics, safety and responsible use. Staff also receive training to ensure AI is used effectively to support teaching and learning. Further guidance is available in our dedicated AI policies for students and staff, which can be found on the school’s Policies page.  You can also download our AI Strategic Statement below.

IT Facilities & Support

Students have access to high-quality, up-to-date IT facilities throughout the school, including five computer rooms equipped with 32 Windows PCs in each, three further IT suites with 20 PCs, alongside specialist Photography and Music suites featuring industry-standard technology.

If students require IT support, they can visit the IT technicians in school or email support@sast.org.uk. Parents/carers can also use this email address for any IT-related queries.

Access from Home

Student Access

Students can access their files, learning resources and support materials through the Student Portal, available via the main school website. From here, they can use Microsoft Teams, Seneca, Sparx and other learning platforms, as well as access Arbor, school email and information about extracurricular activities. Students will need their school username and password to log in.

Parent Access

Parents/carers can access Arbor to monitor their child’s attendance, behaviour and termly reports, as well as view timetables via the Arbor app.

Parents also have access to the Parent & Guardian Zone via the school website – this space gives access to all school apps and digital services and provides support for first time set up.

Homework

Parents/carers receive a weekly email each Sunday outlining upcoming homework tasks across all subjects.

Students should use Microsoft Teams to access and complete their homework. If there are any issues accessing Teams from home, please contact us for support.

Homework may also be set using online platforms such as Sparx Maths, Seneca Learning, Smart Revise and Track My Read. Instructions will always be provided via Teams, and students are expected to know their login details. If there are any issues accessing specific platforms, students should contact their teacher.
