Collective Worship

At The Gryphon School, collective worship is a central expression of our Christian vision and an important part of daily school life. It provides a welcoming space for students and staff to pause, reflect and consider the values, beliefs and experiences that shape our community. Rooted in our vision of living life in all its fullness, collective worship encourages everyone to explore questions of meaning, purpose, identity and hope.

Collective worship is invitational and inclusive, ensuring that all members of our diverse school community can engage in a way that is comfortable and meaningful to them. Through worship, students encounter Christian beliefs and practices while also being encouraged to reflect on their own values, experiences and worldview. We aim to create opportunities for spiritual growth that inspire curiosity, compassion and a deeper understanding of ourselves and others.

Daily reflections form an important part of our worship provision. These reflections invite students to engage with current events, school values, biblical teachings and significant local, national and global issues. By connecting faith with contemporary life, students are encouraged to think critically about the world around them and consider how they can contribute positively to society.

In addition, every tutor group participates in regular tutor-led Acts of Worship. These sessions allow students to explore themes that are relevant to their lives and provide opportunities for discussion, reflection and personal response.

Year group Acts of Worship take place regularly and are led by the School Chaplain alongside members of the Senior Leadership Team, staff, local clergy and other members of the wider community. Following an Anglican structure, these gatherings include opportunities for prayer, reflection and engagement with scripture while remaining accessible to students of all faiths and none. They provide a shared experience that strengthens our sense of community and belonging.

You can find the prayers used for Year Group Acts of Worship here: The Gryphon School Prayers for Collective Worship

Collective worship is closely connected to the wider life of the school. Themes explored in worship often link to our LIFE values of Leadership, Integrity, Fellowship and Exploration, as well as to our work on justice, diversity, wellbeing and student advocacy. This helps students recognise that faith is not simply something discussed in worship, but something that can inspire action, responsibility and service in everyday life.

We are committed to continually developing our worship provision. Student voice is gathered regularly through surveys, reviews and discussions with Student Chaplains, ensuring that collective worship remains meaningful, impactful and responsive to the needs of our community.
