STEM Activities at The Gryphon School

At The Gryphon School, we are committed to nurturing curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking through a rich and diverse range of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities. As an academy secondary school, we provide our pupils with exciting opportunities to explore these fields beyond the classroom, inspiring the next generation of innovators and problem solvers. Our STEM extracurricular programme reflects our core vision and values by fostering resilience, collaboration, and a passion for lifelong learning.

Robotics Club
Our Robotics Club is a vibrant hub for pupils interested in engineering and programming. Here, students design, build, and code robots, developing practical skills and teamwork. The team, known as the Algoryphons has competed regionally and nationally.  The club encourages innovation and perseverance, allowing pupils to experiment with real-world technology in a supportive environment. Many participants have gone on to compete in regional robotics challenges, demonstrating their ability to apply theoretical knowledge creatively.

Primary Engineer Leaders Award (Year 7)
We are proud to support our Year 7 pupils in participating in the Primary Engineer Leaders Award, a prestigious engineering competition designed to inspire young minds. This challenge tasks pupils with identifying a problem in their community and designing an engineering solution, promoting creativity and social responsibility. The competition aligns perfectly with our commitment to developing pupils who are thoughtful, proactive, and community-minded.

The IRIS Project
The Gryphon School is actively involved in the IRIS Project, an innovative research initiative that connects schools with real scientific research. Through this project, pupils engage in authentic STEM research activities, gaining hands-on experience in data collection, analysis, and scientific inquiry. The IRIS Project enhances pupils’ understanding of the scientific method and encourages critical thinking, reflecting our value of intellectual curiosity.

Axiom Maths Circles
We are excited to offer participation in Axiom Maths Circles, a stimulating programme designed to deepen pupils’ mathematical thinking through problem-solving and collaborative exploration. Axiom Maths Circles encourages pupils to tackle challenging problems in a supportive environment, fostering creativity, logical reasoning, and a love of mathematics beyond the standard curriculum. This initiative complements our vision by nurturing intellectual curiosity and resilience, helping pupils build confidence in their mathematical abilities.

Plus many more throughout the year!
