School Games Silver Mark Award
The Gryphon School is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the School Games Silver Mark Award, recognising the school’s outstanding commitment to providing high-quality physical education, competitive sport and inclusive opportunities for every student.
The School Games Mark is a nationally recognised award, delivered through the Youth Sport Trust, which celebrates schools that place physical activity, sport and student development at the heart of school life. Achieving the Silver Award demonstrates The Gryphon School’s continued dedication to creating an environment where all students can enjoy the benefits of being active, whether as performers, leaders, officials or volunteers.
Throughout the academic year, students at The Gryphon School have embraced an extensive programme of sporting opportunities. From inter-house competitions and recreational clubs to district, county and national competitions, students have represented the school with pride, determination and respect. The award reflects not only sporting success, but also the school’s commitment to ensuring that opportunities are accessible to students of all abilities and backgrounds.
The Silver Mark recognises excellence across four key areas:
- Participation – encouraging as many students as possible to engage in regular physical activity and competitive sport.
- Competition – providing a wide range of inclusive intra-school and inter-school competitions.
- Leadership and Workforce – developing young leaders, sports ambassadors, officials and volunteers who support sporting events both within school and the wider community.
- Clubs and Opportunities – offering an extensive extra-curricular programme that enables students to develop new skills, improve their health and wellbeing, and enjoy lifelong participation in physical activity.
At The Gryphon School, sport is about far more than winning matches. Participation in physical activity helps students develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, leadership and communication skills that support success both inside and outside the classroom. These experiences help build positive habits that contribute to lifelong health and wellbeing.
This achievement would not have been possible without the enthusiasm and commitment of our students, the dedication of the PE department and staff who give their time to run clubs, coach teams and accompany fixtures, and the continued support of parents and carers.
While achieving the Silver School Games Mark is a significant milestone, it also provides motivation for the future. The Gryphon School remains committed to expanding opportunities for participation, increasing student leadership roles and continuing to develop an inclusive sporting culture with the ambition of achieving the Gold School Games Mark in the coming years.
We are incredibly proud of everyone who has contributed to this success. The Silver School Games Mark is recognition of the vibrant sporting community that exists at The Gryphon School and reflects our belief that every student should have the opportunity to enjoy, achieve and thrive through physical activity and sport.
