Syllabus Information:

Students study Edexcel 9-1 Business Studies, consisting of two units. Theme 1 (Investigating small business) is covered in Y10, and Theme 2 (Building a Business) is covered in Y11. Both exams are taken at the end of Y11. The structure of the exams is exactly the same. Each is split into three section (A, B and C) with students required to use case study material (provided within the exam) as the basis for answering questions in sections B & C.

Year 10

  • Half Term 1: Enterprise and Entrepreneurs
  • Half Term 2: Spotting a business opportunity (1)
  • Half Term 3: Spotting a business opportunity (2)
  • Half Term 4: Putting a business idea into practice
  • Half Term 5: Making the business effective
  • Half Term 6: Understanding external influences on business

Year 11

  • Half Term 1: Growing the business
  • Half Term 2: Making marketing decisions (1)
  • Half Term 3: Making marketing decisions (2) / Making operational decisions
  • Half Term 4: Making operational decisions (3) / Making financial decisions
  • Half Term 5: Making human resource decisions

Assessment

Students will complete 12 assessment tasks in Year 10 and 10 in Year 11. These tasks will be in the form of exam-style questions. The Assessment headings are as follows:

Year 10

  • Assessment 1: Enterprise & Entrepreneurship – Mid Topic assessment
  • Assessment 2: Enterprise & Entrepreneurship – End of Section test
  • Assessment 3: Spotting a Business Opportunity – Mid Topic assessment
  • Assessment 4: Spotting a Business Opportunity – End of Section test
  • Assessment 5: Putting a Business idea into practice – Mid Topic assessment
  • Assessment 6: Putting a Business idea into practice – End of Section test
  • Assessment 7: Making the Business Effective – Mid Topic assessment
  • Assessment 8: Making the Business Effective – End of Section test
  • Assessment 9: Understanding the External Environment – Mid Topic assessment
  • Assessment 10: Understanding the External Environment – End of Section test
  • Assessment 11: Y10 PPE
  • Assessment 12: Y10 PPE

 

Year 11

Homework

Students will be set a homework per topic set. Homework tasks will involve completing a Seneca Learning module and completion of an exam question, with support.
