Drama and Theatre Studies

Syllabus Information:  Students study A Level Drama with the WJEC Eduqas exam board. For Component 3 they will study Machinal, Chimerica and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.

Course Content

Year 12

  • Introduction to A Level exploring Naturalism and non-naturalism
  • Practitioners and Theatre companies
  • Component 3 exam preparation: Set Texts – Chimerica & Machinal
  • Component 1: Reinterpretation NEA exam
  • PPE Preparation – Component 3

Year 13

  • Component 1: Coursework
  • Component 2: Scripted Performance (externally examined)
  • Component 2: Devising Performance (externally examined)
  • Component 3: exam preparation Chimerica, Machinal & The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Nighttime

Assessment

Students will be frequently assessed by both of their teachers. Each teacher will assess the classes through practical performances at the end of units, for year 12. In year 13 they will be assessed through mock exams and NEA performances. Students will also be assessed in the form of written tasks linked to the Component 3 exam. This is in the form of practice papers and theory tasks linked to this component.

Students will be given booklets in preparation for PPEs, these will incorporate practice questions that will be marked and assessed. There will be a range of questions varying from 10-40 marks (dependent on the section of the exam.

Homework

Students will be set a range of homework tasks in the form of revision materials, consolidation of knowledge, practice papers learning lines and rehearsing outside of lessons,
