“I decided to do an apprenticeship because I had a passion for learning and working in the engineering and aerospace industry”
The Gryphon School was delighted to recently welcome back former student Anna Gawler, who visited us for National Apprenticeship Week. Anna is currently undertaking an apprenticeship with Cobham Mission Systems in Wimborne, which will enable her to progress on to higher study and an further her career.
Anna spoke to all Year 10, Year 11 and a large group of Sixth Form students about her choice to follow an apprenticeship and the opportunities that are available besides full time education after 16 or 18.
She encouraged students to be bold and apply for apprenticeship opportunities even if they think they will not be successful. Employers may have different requirements and could be looking for someone just like them. Many growth areas such as IT, Engineering, Finance, Business, Construction and Health are keen to recruit young people.
Anna said “I decided to do an apprenticeship because I had a passion for learning and working in the engineering and aerospace industry. I wanted the opportunity to be able to gain skills and the independence needed to succeed working in industry. My family and friends have been extremely supportive towards my decision to join Cobham which has made the whole process a lot easier.
I think it’s important for others to see what opportunities are available for them, and an apprenticeship is definitely worth considering.”
Apprenticeships at all levels including degree are updated weekly and can be found on the student intranet at http://intranet.gryphon.dorset.sch.uk/studentintranet/careers-support and the parent intranet at http://intranet.gryphon.dorset.sch.uk/parentintranet/careers
