A new numerical grading system and tougher exams have been introduced in England, with traditional A- being replaced with grades 9-1, with 9 being the highest and the equivalent of an A**, and an 8 equating to an A*. The Gryphon has outperformed the national average again, with 21.6% receiving the top marks of 7 or above, compared to 20.3% nationally. The proportion of entries getting a grade 4 (old grade C) was 78.7% at The Gryphon, significantly higher than 67.3% nationally.

Outstanding individual achievements include:

Manuel B: 11 x 9’s

Aditya R: 8 x 9’s, 2 x 8’s, 6

Headteacher Nicki Edwards said “Our students have really faced up to the challenges of the new GCSE system with the tremendous support of our staff – I am proud of the individual achievement of each student.  These results have enabled our students to choose their next steps with confidence; we look forward to welcoming many of them back into our thriving Sixth Form and wish those leaving us to go on to apprenticeships, employment or further studies elsewhere every success”.

Pamela Peacocke, Head of Year 11 said “I am absolutely delighted for our students, we’ve worked closely with them but they have put in a staggering amount of work – which has really paid off! It is lovely to see so many happy, smiling and excited faces here today!”
